MH 370: AIR FORCE CHIEF SHOULD BE COURT MARTIALLED?

Despite my loathing for Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, his Government of Thieves and his cousin, Defence Minister and Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (dubbed Kerismidin for his racist, threatening and menacing keris waving antics at the 2005 UMNO General Assembly), I concede graciously that the duo are sincere when they say "we will leave no stone unturned...do everything to resolve the frightening mystery of missing flight MH370...help the families of the missing 227 passengers and 12 crew members."

Make no mistake, with passengers from some 15 countries missing, 156 of whom are from China, the whole world is watching. And so far, if we were to judge our Ministers and various aviation and military authorities involved in this ongoing saga from their performances in front of the TV cameras, an 'F' grading would not be far off the mark.

For Kerismudin to scold the press, local and foreign, that "it's only confusing if you want to see it as confusing" is the kind of false bravado and arrogance we have come to expect from a 3rd rate Minister and politician. That UMNO continues to field the clueless Kerismudin as someone who can handle two Ministerial portfolios, when he reached his Peter's Principle #1 level as a rank-and-file UMNO member, is mute testimony to the fact that UMNO lost the plot decades ago. Kerismudin had the cheek to look annoyed, when within the space of five days, he and his "team" u-turned on a number of statements and "strategies", and after five days, switched the search and rescue operations from the waters of the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean, completely in the direction opposite to that from which they started!

Which brings us to the statement first released on 11 March by Berita Harian, a Malay language daily newspaper owned and controlled by UMNO. It quoted our Air Force chief General Tan Sri Rodzali Daud as saying that MH370 had been detected by military radar as a "plot blip" at 2.15 a.m. on Sunday 8 March. The "plot blip" finally went off the military radar screen at 2.40 a.m. over the Straits of Melaka, north west of Penang Island.

Mind you, MAS itself had at first announced that MH370 disappeared off its radar screens at 2.40 a.m. on 8 March over the South China Sea, and then corrected it to 1.30 a.m.

General Daud claimed that he had been misquoted by Berita Harian, and then promptly confirmed the next day that what the Berita Harian had reported was pretty much spot on!!

In simple terms, what this means is that some military personnel at the radar stations at Kota Baru in the east coast, and Penang on the west coast:

1. Were not at their posts when they should have been

2. Or, were sleeping on the job

3. Or, were awake, saw a UFO blip on their screens and went to sleep without alerting their superiors

4. Or, reported their findings to their superiors who dismissed it as fatuous and went back to sleep

AND

5. No one followed the national security SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and scrambled our fighter jets. Imagine, the lives that could have been saved or expenses mitigated had our jets been released for visual sighting and action on the UFO. Imagine too the horror if some misguided terrorist on board MH370 had tragetted ramming into Petronas Twin Towers!!

Worse, do we  have uninterrupted and vigilant 24-hour radar watch over our air space or not, General Daud?

Because, General Daud also said that the search for the "plot blip" was only initiated some hours after MH 370 went missing and the military was told to look at the possibility of MH370 having doubled back and flown towards the Straits of Melaka, based on foreign intelligence.

When questioned why air force jets were not scrambled in real time to investigate the phenomenon, General Daud replied that such action would only have been initiated if the "plot blip" had been determined to be "hostile." 

Huh? Military radar can do that? Determine from a mere "plot blip" whether a UFO is "commercial" or "terrorist or aliens controlled", "hostile" or "benign", especially one which had its ACAR system and transponders deliberately switched off, and did not respond with its "squawk code" transmission? But then, by General Daud's own words, the "plot blip" was not discovered in real time. So, who determined what, when and how? 

Confusing? Not so, says our beacon of clarity incarnate, Defence and Acting Transport Minister, Kerismudin. Attaboy, UMNO's poster boy for speaking at the same time through two apertures at opposite ends of the human anatomy.

What this episode means in terms of our national security is that this is the equivalent of literally driving a coach, an elephant and two T-Rex through Putrajaya, and no one noticing it in real time. We are literally handing out a road map to would-be terrorists to crash their aeroplanes into something like our central busines district, Putrajaya, KLIA or military HQ, and get away with it scot-free.

This is the kind of negligence for which they routinely behead generals in China, while in Japan it would not proceed so far, as the head honcho would have spilled his guts out by first committing hara-kiri!

A Royal Commission of Inquiry, you say? Don't make me laugh. Najib and his Government of Thieves has yet to implement the findings of the 2005 RCI on the 'Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission' or the 2007 'VK Lingam Video Clip RCI' which recommended action be taken against former Chief Justices Eusoff and Ahmad Fairuz for corruption and fixing of judicial appointments, as well as ex-Prime Minister Mahathir, lawyer VK Lingam, businessman Vincent Tan and current Minister of Federal Territories, Tengku Adnan, for their various roles in the affair. This has remained an outrageous and resounding slap on the face of out King by Najib and UMNO for their continued brazen stonewalling.

 And if we do advance to court martial, then let's not dishonourably discharge some poor junior radar clerk; go for the general, because complacency starts at the top.

MH370: CHINESE TERRORISTS OR IRANIAN TERRORISTS OR INNOCENT EMIGRANTS TO GERMANY & DENMARK TRAVELLING ON STOLEN PASSPORTS?

These are the first pictures from Yahoo of two Iranians who travelled on stolen passports on ill-fated Malaysia Airlines System flight MH370, which disappeared off radar screen over Vietnam at 1.30 a.m. Saturday, 8 March 2014. The flight, originating from Kuala Lumpur and also marketed as China Southern Airlines flight CZ748, was on its away from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing, China. The exact fate of its 227 passengers and 12 crew members, among whom were 156 Chinese nationals, is still unknown at the time of this blog post. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS.

Many countries have joined hands to mount search and rescue operations in the South China Sea, off the Vietnamese coast. This logical approach has now been muddied by Malaysian Military claims that its had been tracking MH370 later when it disappeared at 2.40 a.m. in the airspace over Pulau Perak, which is located on the west coast of Malaysia, in the Straits of Melaka. This would be completely in the direction opposite to that of any aeroplane heading towards Beijing! CLICK HERE.We await with bated breathe on this development.

Naturally, the mainstream and social media have been awash with boundless hypotheses and endless speculations, some posing as theories, as to the fate of MH370. So far, our government has dismissed the unknown 'China Martyrs Brigade' claim as being responsible for an act of terrorism, aimed at reprisal against China for the persecution of its majority Muslim Uygher population in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomus Region, population some 21 million in northeastern China. CLICK HERE for that report. But, given that 2/3 of the passengers on MH370 were Chinese nationals, how remote can that CMB claim be?

The media is much abuzz now with news that among the missing passengers were two Iranian nationals who were travelling on passports stolen from an Italian and an Austrian citizen in Thailand sometime in 2012 or 2013. The Iranian duo have been identified as Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad, 19 and Delavar Syed Mohammad Reza, 29. Their tickets were booked in Pattaya, a beach and holiday resort city in the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand by a third so-called Iranian travel agent, Ali Kazem, who has now returned to Tehran. 

Apparently, they bought the stolen passports in Kuala Lumpur!! The two Iranians had no apparent terrorist links? I'm sure that was the intelligence too initially with most of the 9/11 terrorists. Their story, whichever angle you look at it from, looks cock-eyed to say the least. The blase attitude of our IGP is shocking, not to mention Immigration Control at KLIA. The CIA and spy agencies in Europe have not ruled out foul play and terrorism, but our IGP dismisses it within 2 days of the MH370 incident!! I mean:

1. If they were legally emigrating to Germany and Denmark, why were they travelling on stolen passports? Surely the European authorities would have issued them proper immigration approval letters and legal travel documents. They would not have needed stolen passports unless they were up to no good, would they?

2. When one legally emigrates to another country, one is required to depart directly from one's country of origin, in this instance, Iran. Surely, they were not departing from UNHCR camps in Thailand (if such exists, in which case they would not have needed stolen passports)? How come our immigration authority (and the IGP) bought the story that the two Iranians could travel a long route - East, not West - instead of flying west directly from Iran which is so much closer to Germany and Denmark than Thailand or Malaysia or China?

3. It is accepted that our officers at KLIA Immigration Control may not have initially detected the passports as stolen, Interpol data base notwithstanding. But, how come the fact that two Middle Eastern-looking non-Caucasian men were travelling on Austrian and Italian passports did not set off alarm bells at Immigration Control? Our Director-General of the the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) deserves the award for the prize-fool of the year for publicly saying he thought the 2 Iranians looked like Africans, and that one of them resembled the black Italian footballer, Mario Balotelli, who normally shaves his head bald or sports a Mohican haircut.

The Iranian involvement is disturbing, to say the least. In 2012, three Iranian were arrested in Bangkok over a botched plot to kill overseas Israeli diplomats. Their home-made bombs exploded prematurely, and  while in hot pursuit by Thai police, one of the terrorists miscued throwing a handgrenade which blew off his own legs! A fourth member of this Iranian terrorist cell was extradited back to Thailand from Malaysia to where he had fled, claiming innocence, although his image had been captured in CCTV cameras in Bangkok. Also, who knows whose raw nerves might have been triggered off in Iran whose population comprises over 90% Shia Muslims, with UMNO politicians and PM Najib here talking about amending the Malaysian Constitution to "reflect" the supreme position of Sunni Islam, and proscribing Shia Islam and "deviant" sects? UMNO's desperate race and religious baiting may well result in it being solidly bitten in its hind quarters!

Of course, nothing will be substantively or conclusively known until the wreckage of MH370 is found, and its intact black box, retrieved. Or, the USA, Russia or China comes up with some satellite pictures showing signs that an explosion may have taken place. But at least our authorities could stop making the stupidest of statements and refrain from peremptorily dismisss the few leads we have without subjecting them to rigorous analysis of logic, common sense and plain, vigilant sleuthing.

Last March, Malaysia protested against the incursion of four Chinese ships in James Shoal *1, located about 80 kilometres off the coast of Sarawak. Chinese sailors fired guns in the air during the visit to the shoal. In April, a Chinese maritime surveillance ship returned to James Shoal to leave behind steel markers to assert its claim. A month ago, three Chinese ships comprising an amphibious landing craft, the Changbaishan, and two destroyers, patrolled along the coast of James Shoal. In the latest sign of Beijing's territorial assertiveness in the South China Sea, state news agency Xinhua said:

"During the ceremony held in the Zengmu Reef area, soldiers and officers aboard swore an oath of determination to safeguard the country's sovereignty and maritime interests. Fleet commander Jiang Weilie urged soldiers and officers to always be prepared to fight, improve combat capabilities and lead the forces to help build the country into a maritime power." Zengmu Reef is the Chinese term for James Shoal.

China also upset the Philippines and the United States in January this year, when arbitrary rules went into force demanding fishing boats seek permission to enter waters under the jurisdiction of China's southern province of Hainan, an area the provincial government says covers much of the South China Sea! Earlier, the belligerent Chinese had sent a warship and a flotilla of fishing vessels to the Ayungin Reef in the Spratly Islands which has been under Philippine military control since 1999. The Philippines responded with three military vessel of their own to shore up their defences.

Many countries - Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Vietnam - all claim sovereign rights over the James Shoal and Spratly Islands, rumoured to have huge undersea oil and gas deposits (completely unsubstantiated by any scientific study) to dwarf the rest of the world's energy reserves. 

Of course, the Chines do not think it's relevant that the James Shoal and Spratly Islands are more than a thousand kilimetres from its southernmost coastline!

What is perhaps more intriguing is that other than the usual "diplomatic" noises, Prime Minister Najib and his cousin, the equally loathed and reviled "Defence Minister" Hishammudin or Kerismudin, have not sent any of our Godwin, Lekiu, Kasturi, Laksamana, Kedah or Perdana combat, frigate, corvette, off-shore, missile and gunboat class ships and fast assault crafts to do some sabre-rattling of our own. Then again, what's happened to "our" two infamous $8 billion Altantuya Class Scorpene Submarines - the KD Tunku Abdul Rahman and KD Tun Abdul Razak - and their Exocet missiles,  which Najib said would keep the world at bay from our precious shores and sea limits? Are they only fit to track illegal boat-Indon and Filipino immigrants, having failed to detect the "incursion" at Lahad Datu in 2013?

Are any of our billion ringgit class ships and submarines functional at all? Or are they, as usual, in dry docks for sudden unscheduled "scheduled maintenance" works? Do we have a serviceable marine pea-shooter that can be deployed to high seas in a jiffy, as the Philippines did?

Or, are we too scared of the bullying China to stand up for our own sovereign rights? Make no mistake, China knows exactly what it is doing. It is deliberate, provocative and malice aforethought. It knows it does not have a peg-leg to stand on in its claims in the Spratlys and James Shoal. It is doing exactly what the USA is doing in interfering in the internal politics of Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere, claiming hypocritically and dishonestly that countries 2,000 km away from its shores pose a "security threat" to its citizens.

China is in a kind of war with the West and the rest of the world to secure long-term supply of raw materials and food supplies for its massive 1.4 billion population and industries. It's forays in Africa for minerals smack of subtle colonisation. China dreams of the day it will be recognised as the world's number one economy and superpower, never mind that its western half is wallowing in poverty, and its eartern coastline, blanketed in super smog. A country which has never embraced democratic principles or government in its 5,000-year history knows of no other way of achieving this than by gunboat "diplomacy." But a rose by any other name smells the same; bullying is all the current Chinese leadership knows.

And there is one thing I have instinctively known from the time I was about seven years old, and acted upon without fear, whether in school or outside of it: Always stand up to bullies, or be prepared to be trampled and stomped over! And we all know now that Najib and his Government of Thieves are the most craven of cowards!

Najib and Kerismudin, these "yella bellies" as they would have been plainly and insultingly tagged during the era of cowboys, are selling our future now to China by quaking in their boots against  unprincipled dictators and landgrabbers, and not taking a firm stand.
